We decided to start the Buckeye Review because the black community is underrepresented in the American media. We saw stories and issues pertaining to African Americans were being ignored by the mainstream press. The solution was simple: start a publication that covers what matters to the black community in Youngstown, OH. We want to communicate, educate, and motivate. We are the only African American media in print serving Youngstown, OH.
We are proud of what we have accomplished here. Since we founded this newspaper in 1937, the response from readers in the community has been overwhelming, and each day we work with them to improve our coverage to better suit their needs. We are here to serve the black community, and we provide a level of journalism you cannot find anywhere else.
We do not believe that newspapers should only focus on local reportage or general news. We want our communities to be strong. The only way to guarantee that is through robust community development. We use this newspaper to inform members of the black community about local events, sports, and entertainment events that will allow them to connect with one another to build healthy and long-lasting relationships.
